Sources of Funding
The sources of funding available for sport used to be very complicated and
fragmented. The introduction of the National Lottery to the UK 15 years ago
generated a substantial and significant increase in the amount of funds available
for sports development, and this in turn has led to a shift in the ways funds are
distributed.
There are now four main sources of funding for sport in the UK, namely:
• National Lottery
• Government (Department of Media, Culture and Sport)
• Football Pools
• Private Charitable Trusts
None of these bodies directly distributes the funds, instead they are channelled
through separate charities, some of whose available funds are supplemented by
sport specific bodies ( eg the Premier League).
Distributors
The main distributors for sport can be categorised into three groups; those that fund:
• General sport related projects
• Sport specific projects
• Community based projects
Grants 4 Sport have developed a range of Sport Specific Factsheets that will
assist you to identify which funder may be able to help fund your project.
Each fact sheet will give you an overview of the different funder that may be able
to help you, and tells you which project tools package you’ll need to put together
your own complete application.
Don’t forget, we can do a more detailed funder search for you and even prepare
your entire application too. Just take a look at our full range of products and
services in the Services menu. |
